A successful Premium Wi-Fi
To better reflect the idea of what premium offer Wi-Fi, then I had to tell a real case.
A few years ago, a chain contacted us, came because they had multiple problems with your wireless network particularly in a resort of 350 rooms.
After making a study of its network improvement project, it was carried manageable and installation of equipment (driver and hotspot) and making use of all network components that might be but we had a problem; the flow of Internet Access (inadequate and of low quality).
The aim was to customize and offer Wi-Fi coverage access throughout the resort for free, but as we had was absolutely impossible (because of the potential number of users and their consumption).
They did understand the customer’s need to manage connections, customers streamline the flow, download, and of course sessions, simultaneous applications and packages even quite taxing.
Once the implementation was done and seen to have been a success as a guarantee of stability and quality of concurrent connections, the number of users connected grew month to month due to the appearance on the scene of most wireless devices are managed as tablets, smartphones, PDAs, etc., so the demand was growing but not the total flow available to continue limited and problems that the operator was unable to arrive at the complex ADSL.
Part of the benefits of wireless service of a hotel for NGO
In this second stage, a study was conducted with the marketing department of the chain to try to solve the problem; they wanted to offer free Wi-Fi to hotel guests, but consumption and the attendance was greater than the available internet connections, finally a mixed system that would continue to offer a free service without reducing quality was created. The appropriate connection speed to browse any website with a reasonable response times was narrowed, and imitating the bandwidth consumed at reasonable flows in which any hosted customer could browse, download your mail, upload photos or updates to social networks, make new reservations service, etc.; everything you normally use but preventing abuses in consumption.
The end result was a 250K connection and maximum (very reasonable for a normal connection download of 100Mb per room. In the event that the client “would abuse” of multimedia content (video – music – movies -games online) could exhaust its transfer rate, however, it was given the possibility that the client could renew the connection or even expand the download but in a very economical way. The hotel told us that his idea was to market a service and not the network but one month agreed to put it to the test.
The VIP rooms or suites had until 3 simultaneous connections per room for different devices of guests staying. In this case the connection was 300Kbits and up to 300MB download per connection).
Two packages of extension of connections paying very low cost and acceptable for any hotel guest made if needed for more speed or flow, which offered two options to keep things the customer.
- 250kbits and 300megas at a price of € 3 day
- 500kbits and 500megas at a price of 5 € day
The result after a month was spectacular; rooms had all this free connection, a course was held captive portal explaining the conditions and detailed extension service if they needed it.
In addition to the free connections daily they sold an average of 55 connections, 40 connections 3 € and 5 €, giving a figure of € 55 X 3 + 40 X 5 = €365 per day, which was 30 days per month a total turnover of € 10,950 per month or what was the same year were able to generate a gross turnover of € 131,400.
The Directorate General was welcomed to the idea of installing profitable easily, and most importantly, some of these new revenue’s reserved for the IT department to improve the network in these two years has already done two extensions achieving acquire new operators (in this case satellite and 3G) to continue taking the growing demand for wireless services by customers.
The marketing departments together with the department have felt proud to be able to offer a quality service at a cost to the customer symbolic. Also, this year have decided to offer € 1 per connection acquired an NGO and thereby engage the customer from your hotel in charity events through the occasional use and most of the time “Playful” of the wireless network of the hotel.
The success of this network is the good management of it, but especially the fact of facing a connection problem turns it around and gets a system that provides benefits to the chain. We have referred to any hotel guest has no claim or comment about having to pay € 3 more for wanting to increase the connection.
